Malaybalay
is located at the heart of Mindanao. It is bounded in the north by
the municipality of Impasug-ong, in the south by the municipalities
of Valencia and San Fernando, in the west by the municipality of Lantapan
and Mount Kitanglad and in the east by mountain ranges separating
the Province of Bukidnon from the provinces of Agusan Del Sur and
Davao Del Norte.The area of the municipality is 108,259 hectares before
it was created a city on March 22, 1998. As of today, the area was
reduced to 96,913 hectares pending resolutions of some boundary conflicts.The
city occupies an area which is roughly 13.5% of the total land area
of the province. Malaybalay is relatively cool and invigorating throughout
the year. The average annual rainfall is 2,800 millimeters (112.5
inches) which is distributed throughout the year, although it is somewhat
greater from June to October than in the other months of the year.
The terrain of the city is varied in land forms and characterized
by its rolling hills and low plains, alternated by rivers and creeks
with deep canyons and wide forestall area which are its foremost natural
resources. The varied land forms of the territory are potentially
program areas for agriculture and forest development.The people of
Malaybalay depends upon the use of the natural resources which abound
like the rich and fertile plains, green and verdant rolling hills
and the virgin forest and watershed areas. Majority of the farmers
grows corn, rice, sugarcane, pineapple, bananas, vegetables and other
high value crops.There are twenty-five agri-based industries in the
area engaged in poultry and pig breeding and growing. About 7 hectares
have been devoted to the propagation of orchids, chrysanthemums, anthuriums,
roses and other ornamental plants.The latest listings of the Business
License Section of the City Government list a total of 1,579 establishments.
Of the total number of business firms within the city, 40% of these
is within the Poblacion and the remaining are scattered in 35 rural
barangays. By sector, the business firms are distributed as follows:
Manufacturing 16 (1%); Trading 1,033 (65%); Agribusiness 165 (11%).Investment
priorities include cassava production, cottage industries on rattan
by products, leather and clay, rattan furniture manufacturing, wood
furniture manufacturing, poultry & piggery growing, cattle production
and cattle raising for dairy and beef.
